I
have a pleasure to announce that the Sixth International Symposium on
Beamed Energy Propulsion will be held on November 1 5, 2009 at
Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort, Scottsdale, Arizona.
The
symposium is organized by American Institute of Beamed Energy Propulsion (AIBEP,
http://www.aibep.org
). The website of the conference can be reached via
this link:
http://aibep.org/ISBEP_6/ISBEP_6.htm
The
presentations are planned for three days: 11/2 11/4. Pre-registration
and Welcome Reception will take place on Sunday, 11/01 evening.
On Wednesday evening (11/4) we will have awards dinner with
traditional keynote speech. The last day, Thursday,
November 5, is reserved for the daylong trip to Grand Canyon National
Park.
If
you are planning to attend the meeting and present a paper, you are
welcome to submit your abstract NOW. We have collected
some number of abstracts already. An abstract with the
title, author's name(s) and affiliation(s) and not more than 150 words of
text must be submitted by e-mail to pakhomov@aibep.org
in the form of a direct message or as an attachment in MS Word or Word
Perfect format not later than October 1, 2009.
ISBEP
5 will be held in the same tradition as all our previous meetings,
convened in Huntsville (2002), Sendai (2003), Troy (2004), Nara (2005) and
Kona (2007). The program of ISBEP 6 will cover ALL
aspects related to the science and technology of beamed-energy propulsion
in its various forms and applications. The list of
topics includes, but is not limited to:
basic science and technology of laser, microwave, x-ray and particle-beam
propulsion and micropropulsion (microthrusters);
BEP mission and system analysis;
BEP for interstellar missions;
power-beamed photon sails;
beamed energy for propulsion in microspace (BEP nano-vehicles);
hybrid and auxiliary BEP systems;
beam-propelled aircraft;
BEP flight experiments;
lasers and other sources for BEP;
beam generation, guidance and propagation for propulsion;
new BEP concepts;
directed-energy airspikes;
research facilities for BEP tests;
economics, geography, politics and history of BEP.
Each
presentation must be accompanied with submission of a technical paper (limited
to 12-page format). Proceedings will be published as
always under the Conference Series of American Institute of Physics, in
the format of hardcover, 6x9-inch size book. In
addition, AIP will provide on-line access to its proceedings for one year
(free to all ISBEP participants). Early submissions are
encouraged. Guidelines for paper preparation and
copyright clearance and assignment forms will be provided on ISBEP 6
website within several weeks. For the updates, please,
visit the conference site at http://aibep.org/ISBEP_6/ISBEP_6.htm
Registration
fees: In spite of all economical woes, we are intending to keep
registration fees within our traditional low limits and to maintain the
discounts for students and retirees. Moreover, AIBEP
members will enjoy noticeable break in registration fees.
The
venue: Scottsdale is a suburb of Phoenix, and the meeting place is located
12 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The
Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort rates are offered at $119/night and,
considering limited room block it is advised to book your room as soon as
possible (deadline for group rates is October 1, but the number of rooms
is limited).
I
am looking forward to hearing from you if you would have any questions
about ISBEP 6 and hope to see you all this fall at the sunny Paradise
Valley Resort (it will be warm and sunny in November in Phoenix).
Please,
feel free to forward this message to everyone who might be interested in
participating in ISBEP 6.
Sincerely,
